Chapter 4

Activities report

In 2022, the European Cultural Foundation supported a wide range of 220 different cultural initiatives across Europe.

2022 was a challenging year for the European Cultural Foundation as we responded to the war in Ukraine while maintaining momentum for scaling up our programmes and projects supporting cultural initiatives across wider Europe.

We supported 220 different projects in 2022 – from initiatives created by cultural venues in the European Pavilion to local libraries in the Europe Challenge, from creatives in the iPortunus programme to cultural organisations in and around Ukraine in the new edition of the Culture of Solidarity Fund.

Within the pages of this Activities report, you can read about our key achievements for 2022, grouped under our three thematic programmatic strands, which aim to inspire people and communities to EXPERIENCE Europe – IMAGINE Europe – SHARE Europe.

What unites our programmes is a focus on Europe as a cultural community. Our overarching goal is to strengthen the European sentiment. Our programmes aim to engage Europeans from many backgrounds to experience the common space they share, stimulate citizens to imagine their futures freely and with an open mind, and to support the co-creation of Europe as a shared public space for everybody.

Over the course of 2022, our focus programmes included:
• the Culture of Solidarity Fund
• the Europe Challenge
• the European Pavilion
• a cluster of inspiring initiatives focusing on European public space and media representation, including Re:framing Migrants in the European Media.

You can read about our programmes and key achievements in 2022 by following each of the thematic strands below.
